Before you start (who am I kidding? Check the comments), yes, I know it's a measuring stick/gauge and not a thermometer, but that hasn't stopped Mohawk, Michigan, from naming a towering, red-and-white wooden structure "The Keweenaw Snow Thermometer." As you can probably figure out from the name, this monstrosity measures snowfall and records, including the Mitten State's largest-ever annual layer of white.

Again, I KNOW it's a 'gauge,' not a thermometer, but as you can see below, even Google calls it a thermometer, and it's Google's world; we live in it. Whatever you want to call it, this monument to life in Michigan's Upper Peninsula is a world record holder.

You may just be learning about snow thermometers/gauges, so it may or may not surprise you that the Keweenaw Snow Thermometer is the world's largest Snow Thermometer, according to the World Record Academy.

While I know grammar/term police are still clutching their pearls, the Keweenaw Snow Thermometer is the correct name, so settle down. Pasty Central (who has to be an expert on all things Yupper) refers to it as a thermometer, as does Michigan Technological University (never argue with an engineer; you'll only frustrate yourself).

While most of the internet calls this giant measuring stick a thermometer, there is one Upper Peninsula entity that calls it The Keweenaw Snow Gauge. Kudos to VisitKeweenaw.com for trying, but 'Snow Thermometer' has stuck.
