Before you end up screaming at the departure board, remember that most flight delays are there to keep the passengers safe—and airborne, two things I very much appreciate when flying. Here's what's more than likely causing your travel nightmare:

• Not Enough Staff - Just like everybody else, airlines are dealing with worker shortages, but thankfully, they aren't asking us to fly the plane or serve drinks...yet
• Too Many People - Everyone from Lansing, Detroit, Grand Rapids, and all points in Michigan are looking to take a vacation at the same time which makes for longer security lines and more chances for something to go wrong.
• Weather - Look, it's Michigan. Mother Nature looks at a beautiful day here and says, "Well, I can fix that."
• Airport Construction - Just when you knew where everything was, they've gotta go and do a renovation.
