Screaming Gall Bladder: Can You Eat Over 43 Chili Dogs?
How many hotdogs can you eat at one setting? If you can eat well over 40, you just may be able to beat the record at the Corner Bar in Rockford.
The Corner Bar sits at the intersection of N. Main and Courtland streets. The brick building was constructed in 1873, and in the 1930s it became a pool hall. By 1935 it was transformed into the Corner Bar.
With Prohibition over for a few years, owner Carl Hyde applied for a license to sell beer. He was denied unless he sold food along with the alcohol; he agreed, and the food he began with was hot dogs.

Over the decades, the bar became famous for its hot dogs and chili dogs. In fact, a Wall of Fame was started in 1968, naming everyone who could eat a dozen or more hot dogs at one sitting. So far, the record holds at 43 hotdogs eaten in four hours on December 5, 2005 by Balinda Gould. Not only did she get a screaming gall bladder the next day, but she was rewarded $500.
THE RULES:
Eat a dozen chili dogs and get your name on the Wall of Fame.
Eat twenty chili dogs and you get your meal and a t-shirt for free.
The Corner Bar suffered a major fire back on August 14, 2017, with residents fearing they had lost their iconic bar forever. With determination and support from the town, the bar was refurbished and finally re-opened a year later on August 24, 2018.
