Another Michigan CVS Is Closing—More Could Follow in 2025
Look, Michigan hasn't had the best of luck as of late, as far as national retailers packing up and closing shop. Kohl's, Macy's, Rite Aid, Big Lots, Party City...the list of store closures in 2024 is as long as my arm. And now, CVS plans to close 270 stores nationwide in 2025, and at least one Michigan location is among them.

GoBankingRates reports that the suits at CVS got together late last year and reviewed the performance of every store nationwide.

They looked at "buying patterns" when trying to figure out which stores would get the ax. But what does that mean for us in Michigan?

More simply, if your community isn't shopping at your local CVS, it could very well end up with a "For Lease" sign or a Spirit Halloween for at least a couple of months.
Most CVS Locations Are Leased
Why "For Lease" and not "For Sale?" According to a 2021 CredIQ story, CVS operated over 8,100 stores nationwide, but owned only a little more than 400 of them. Now, imagine being one of the landlords, sweating over whether their tenant made the list.

So, which Michigan location will soon be surrounded by sign twirlers and a "Closing Soon" banner? Here's what Newsweek had to say:
- St. Clair Shores
- 27700 Harper Avenue
As of June 20, 2025, the location still has a website, though that will likely change soon. Newsweek also listed the Roseville, Michigan, store on Gratiot Avenue as closing, though that location closed its doors in early March of this year.
Will Your CVS Be Next?
If you just breathed a sigh of relief because your neighborhood pharmacy wasn't on the list, don't. CVS has only announced 37 of the 270 stores it plans to close this year. According to ScrapHero, there are 235 locations in 115 cities in Michigan.
There's still a lot of 2025 left, and it's a safe bet that we'll lose a couple more in the Mitten State before the end of the year.
