Aggie’s Airport Bar & Motel in the UP: Gone and…..Forgotten
So many things have gone the wayside in the Upper Peninsula: restaurants, roadside attractions, gas stations, party stores.....and motels.
The former Aggie's Airport Bar and Motel at 11629 M-28 near Newberry sits kitty-corner from the Luce County Airport and was doing pretty good business for a number of years.
Believed to have opened for business before or during the 1960s, Aggie’s was owned and operated by Aggie Johnson. It had eight units along with the Airport Bar & Grill right next door.
I have come across so many of these during roadtrips through the U.P. and I always want to know what they were and how long they lasted. Histories for these places are not always simple to find.
Aggie’s seems to have closed in the early 2000s, but nothing is substantiated. Photos are below.
