Worst Colleges in America? Two Are in Michigan!

Here in Michigan we are pretty proud of our higher education. We feel that our colleges and universities are a pretty strong group with some nationally prestigious institutions in the mix.

While we all know about prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Yale, or Columbia, other colleges may not have it as good.

According to the website, Herald Weekly, it's not life and death if you don't have an Ivy League education. Of course you can certainly get by without it, however there are schools out there that are about as helpful as having a summer job flipping burgers.

Whether these colleges are in lawsuit hell, have a sky-high drop-out rate, or have just plainly left you in thousands of dollars of debt, a degree from these schools will not help you earn large dollars.

In Herald Weekly's list of the of worst academic institutions in the United States, there are two in Michigan.

Who are they?

Baker College
Flint, Michigan

Hearld Weekly says:

Baker College in Flint, Michigan, is in the midst of shutting down. In August of 2020, the Flint Township campus closed – although they just consolidated and moved to Owosso. It’s no secret that the people living in Flint have dealt with their fair share of (serious) problems over the past several years, which continues to this day.

Aside from the obvious issues, local grads are dealing with more than $22,000 in debt and struggling to pay it, thanks to an average salary of just over $27,000.

Kalamazoo College

Kalamazoo, Michigan

Ten years after entry into Kalamazoo, 82% of students who graduate will find themselves earning around $48,700.

When you compare that to the average yearly tuition of $48,516, it seems like the ROI on this program is less than desirable.

Ironically, there are some big-name, Ivy League colleges and universities that made the list simply because of their ROI, return on investment.

The astronomically high tuition along with room & board compared to what the average graduate will earn in the job market says it may not be worth it.
