Don’t Eat It! Ice Cream Sold in Michigan Recalled Over Listeria Concerns
It's ice cream season, so a lot of us are scarfing down more of it. Well, check your freezer because ice cream sold in 19 states, including Michigan, is being recalled for possible Listeria risk.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug administration, Real Kosher Ice Cream of Brooklyn, NY is recalling soft serve on the go ice cream and sorbet cups, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, and abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
Two people have been hospitalized in connection to the outbreak, one in Pennsylvania and one in New York. So far, no deaths have been reported.
The recalled product was sold under the brand name Soft Serve on the Go at gas stations, convenience stores, and similar retailers.
According to the USDA,
The recalled product is packaged in an 8 fl oz., clear plastic cup. The product looks like a soft serve cup served in an ice cream store, with a clear plastic cover with a seal and spoon attached to it.
All flavors are being recalled.

Real Kosher ice cream has stopped production and distribution while the FDA investigates.
If you purchased the recalled ice cream - do not eat it. Throw it away or return it to where you bought it for a refund.
