Is Michigan’s Largest Porn Site Being Banned?

It's something many people watch but few will openly admit to doing. It's why the porn industry makes more than the NFL, NBA, and MLB in the USA each year. Porn is everywhere, and some states are taking action against it.

North Carolina has joined a growing list of states passing laws requiring users to verify their ages via ID verification. As it did when Utah passed a similar law, Aylo, the owner of the world's largest pornography site Pornhub, has removed access to its site for everyone in the state in protest of the new laws.

While at first glace this law is a positive move to help protect minors from being exposed to content they shouldn't be seeing, it also creates an extra barrier of access to the site for people who are old enough to access the content. In a post that is shown each time Pornhub is accessed in these states, the company states its reason for the ban:

...Giving your ID card every time you want to visit an adult platform is not the most effective solution for protecting our users, and in fact, will put children and your privacy at risk.

 

The company believes that it should not be on the company to determine who is accessing its site, rather the government should create restrictions that are implemented on the devices themselves. Freely giving your private information poses increased safety concerns for both the user and the company.

Could Michigan follow suit and try imposing restrictions in pornography? While there has not been any legislation introduced involving adult platforms, there have been lawsuits in school districts to remove books deemed "explicit" as recently as last year. However, those lawsuits were dismissed and no further legal motions have been presented.
