Detroit Tigers Tickets In 1967 Were Cheaper Than A Soda Today
My grandpa is one of the biggest Tigers fans I know. His basement is full of memorabilia spanning years. I've never seen a man experience an emotional swing like the one he experienced during the 2012 Playoffs & WS appearance (IYKYK).
I was recently rummaging around in his basement and found a 1967 Detroit Tigers schedule pamphlet, and while seeing the schedule was cool, the thing that made me do a double-take was the price of the tickets listed. In '67, you could have a date night for less than 5 dollars.
This team went on to win the World Series in '68, so this was a phenomenal team to watch for super cheap.
Tigers History
The Detroit Tigers have historically been a solid team throughout the history of the MLB, rocking 11 World Series appearances and 4 Championships (1935,1945,1968,1984). That 1968 team, with star pitchers Denny McLain and Mickey Lolich, won the World Series and was honored in 2018 for the 50th anniversary of the championship.
Detroit Tigers 1967
This 1967 schedule shows the logo at the time (which looks like it was stamped onto the sheet). I'm very curious to know what the Tiger just saw because wow it looks terrified.
It has the entire season from April to the single game on October 1st. According to the schedule, not all games were televised still in '67, so if you wanted to see your favorite Tigers you did have to BE there.
But the most shocking part of this pamphlet is the ticket prices. All tickets were under $5, but even more shocking you could get a ticket for one dollar. $1. That is incredible.
- Box Seats: $3.00
- Reserved Seats: $2.25
- General Admission: $1.50
- Bleachers: $1.00
A regular general admission ticket today costs $19 for a seat in the nosebleeds, a Box seat is ~$60. That is an insane markup in the last 50 years.
Did you attend a game back in the 60's, and still have your ticket? I'd love to see it.
