Most of us have grown up on some version of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, peanut butter and crackers, peanut butter and celery, or even just peanut butter on a spoon. Peanut butter has become one of the most used household food items in the last 100 years but not all peanut butter or peanut butter products are created equal as there are some that are clearly better than the others.

24/7 Wall St put together a list of the 13 brands of Peanut Butter that should be avoided at all costs. The tough thing for us here in Michigan is that many of these brands that made the list are sold here in Michigan. There are many different types of peanut butter brands so there are options with different nutritional measurements that some are better for you than others. Unfortunately for us here in Michigan, the worst brands are sold here.

Before we get to the worst brands on the list some of the other brands are important for us to know as they are also sold in Michigan. Some of the notable brands to have an eye out for are :

  • Trader Joe's Salted Peanut Butter
  • Smucker's Reduced Fat Natural Creamy Peanut Butter
  • Skippy Natural Peanut Butter
  • Peter Pan Original Creamy Peanut Butter
  • JIF Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter
  • Skippy Reduced Fat Peanut Butter

Now, let's take a look at the 3 worst brands of peanut butter that ae being sold here in Michigan. Although all of these brands of peanut butter have been ranked the worst, I still eat some of them and have even grown up on them. The 3 worst brands of Peanut Butter are Great Value, Smucker's Goober Grape, and Reese's.

Great Value Peanut Butter comes in as the 3rd worst peanut butter in the country because it has trace amounts of sugar, hydrogenated fats, and salt. Coming in close second is Reese's Peanut Butter which earned it's spot on the list due to additional ingredients including molasses and cornstarch that lower the nutritional value even more.

Before I get into the worst brand I just want to say that I personally disagree with 24/7 Wall St when it comes to this last brand. I don't care about the nutritional value, the price point, or anything else. This brand that they labeled the worst is a childhood staple of mine, so it may just be the nostalgia talking. With that being said, Smucker's Goober Grape is the worst Peanut Butter brand sold in Michigan.

This peanut butter brand has many of the same problem ingredients as the previously mentioned brands but it also includes that one despised ingredient; high fructose corn syrup. Plus, potassium sorbate is another questionable ingredient that may make you want to pass this one by the next time you go shopping.

Which Peanut Butter Brands Should Michiganders Avoid?

While it's often marketed as a healthy addition to your after noon snack or morning smoothie, there are some hidden ingredients that should be avoided in many of the popular brands.

13 Ways to Celebrate National Peanut Butter Lovers Month

March is National Peanut Butter Lovers Month and we couldn't be happier. So many of us, including this writer, honor peanut butter (and its trusty companion, Jelly) as perhaps our "first sandwich."

I remember trundling them off to elementary school secure in my Daniel Boone all-metal lunchbox every day back in the 1950s. By the time lunch came around and I unwrapped the sandwich it had melded itself into a gooey, room-temperature, ball of bread and peanutty wonderfulness. So to celebrate this beloved month, we went on a hunt around Upstate New York looking for the most unusual ways you can celebrate peanut butter, and boy do we have 13 doozies for you in this gallery!
