Ingham County Officers To Strongly Enforce State Gathering Bans

In the wake of Governor Gretchen Whitmer's ban of gatherings and crowds of 250 or more in the State of Michigan Friday, warnings are being issued by the state's top law enforcement officer, and local law officials.

WILX.com reports that law enforcement officers in Ingham County are reminding organization leaders and business owners that they will be actively ensuring that local establishments abide by the policy. Offenders could face misdemeanor charges with penalties of up to 90 days in jail and $200 in fines.

Meanwhile, a Detroit Free Press report cites warnings from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel issues Sunday afternoon. Restaurants, bars, and other facilities with state-issues liquor licenses could lose those licenses if they do not comply with Governor Whitmer's executive order, in addition to fines of up to $500.

Additionally, on Sunday, Ingham County Health Department officials ordered all food service establishments in the county to reduce all capacities in half, or face penalties.

There are exceptions to the gathering bans, including industrial and manufacturing work sites, mass transit, and grocery/consumer goods retail outlets.
