Recall Alert: Popular Michigan Sweet Treat Recalled Over Mold
If you're a fan of late-night sweets (or sweets at any time), you may want to pay attention to this one.
What’s Being Recalled
It was announced that Hostess is recalling certain Chocolate Ding Dongs nationwide, including here in Michigan, due to possible mold contamination.
If you've got Ding Dongs in your pantry, you’ll want to check the details to make sure you’re in the clear.
Why the Recall Happened
The recalled Ding Dongs were sold in 10-count boxes and family-sized packs with best-by dates of August 30 and September 3, 2025. A factory malfunction may have created conditions that allowed mold to grow before the cakes were packaged.
What You Should Do
Of course, you should avoid eating mold at all costs. Your best bet is to throw the affected products away or return them to the place you purchased them for a refund or replacement. Hostess has stressed that the issue is limited to these Ding Dongs, and they were pulled from shelves as soon as the problem was discovered.
Health Risks of Mold
Mold can cause serious health issues if ingested. It can produce mycotoxins, which may lead to nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and even diarrhea. It really isn’t worth the risk for that sweet treat.
Here’s what to look for on the boxes to see if your product is affected:
