The National Weather Service out of Grand Rapids has issued a High Swim Risk for a few beaches along Lake Michigan.

As you can see below there is the potential for 3-5 foot tall waves on most of the Lake Michigan beaches this weekend. The wave height is important as there is a high risk of drowning in waves 3 - 5 feet tall. The beaches with the highest risk are Ludington, Pentwater, Muskegon, and Grand Haven. The NWS tells you if you are going to the beach this weekend to pay attention to beach flags and signs posted at beach access points and lifeguard stations. As dangerous currents can sweep you out away from shore. They occur most often at breaks or low spots in sandbars...near shoreline structures...and near river mouths or other water outlets.
