Henry Ford Museum & The Chair Abraham Lincoln Was Assassinated In

I just love history, and love to watch the History Channel, fun to learn about all the great Hero's, and stories in our country.  I am so proud to live in the United States Of America.

So last Wednesday was the 156th anniversary of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. You may remember from your history class, Lincoln was shot sitting in a chair at Ford's Theater on April 14, 1865, he later died about 24 hours later. So sad, because who knew how much he could of enjoyed life, if he had not been shot that day.  He could have taught us so much more.

According to fox47news.com the chair covered in red fabric with a wooden frame, is now at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. I have to go see this, because It's one of the more historic things there. It did undergo some care and restoration, I mean after all it is over 150 years old. The chair was held in a private office of Secretary of War Edwin Stanton, and later was sent to the Smithsonian in 1867, and placed in storage.

Mary Fahey, the head of conservation at The Henry Ford, says;

The chair has had many journeys before it ended up at the Henry ford Museum.  The conservation work began, and structural problems involving the wooden frame were repaired by The Henry Ford staff, but the fabric itself was repaired by outside staff. To prepare for the conservation, the museum took 10 different samples from the chair.

Mary also said It's pretty incredible.  It's sad, but it's also so amazing to look at. So much to see at this museum. I was there for a quick visit once, but planning to see it again when I get more time this summer.
