Would you allow a stranger into your house to deliver food directly into your fridge when you're not there? I'm all about online convenience, delivery, and so on. But, I ain't trusting corporate America with access to my locks or garage, letting some delivery person into my house while I'm not there, and letting them put food directly into my refrigerator. And real talk, I don't know if this is the job I want either. I have been to some of my friends' houses. I have seen their fridges. I don't want to be alone in either one with them not there lol.

Walmart is testing this thing out in just a handful of cities. Kansas City, Missouri; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Vero Beach, Florida this fall.

Here's how it works.

  • Customers place a grocery order and then select InHome Delivery and a delivery day at checkout – they take it from there!
  • Customers can then go about their days while a Walmart associate takes care of their grocery shopping for them – from food aisle to fridge.
  • At the time of delivery, associates will use smart entry technology and a proprietary, wearable camera to access the customer’s home – allowing customers to control access into their homes and giving them the ability to watch the deliveries remotely.(Walmart)

Also of note, they install a lock on your front door or garage door opener to gain access to your house. And once inside, to your fridge.

Each delivery person has specific training, has worked in a store for at least a year, and will undergo extensive background checks. Also, they'll be equipped with a body camera so you can see them remotely or have a record of what they did once they were in your house.

First month is free. The service is $20 bucks a month.

You can buy convenience. But you can't sell me on this one. Sorry. They talked about Amazon doing this a while back for package delivery. I have problems with maintenance going into my apartment while I'm not there.

Call me old fashioned, but I'll go get my groceries myself. I have trust issues.
