So the other day I'm driving down Mt. Hope Road heading home from work when I noticed all of these beautiful GM cars sitting in one of MSU's parking lots.  Then it made me wonder as to what's going on?

According to the Lansing State Journal:

General Motors, through a subcontractor, leased one of MSU's parking lots near East Mt. Hope Road and Farm Lane to store partially built vehicles.  GM leased the lot for $75,000 for three months, plus extra security costs incurred by the MSU Police Department for increased patrols and security, which are billed directly, MSU spokesman Dan Olsen said.

Well now we get the picture.  These are Chevrolet Traverses and Buick Enclaves which are waiting for semiconductors.  They just don't have enough semiconductors to finish building each and every one of these GM vehicles.

Lansing State Journal adds:

"We have said that when there is a shortage of semiconductors that impacts production, in some cases we intend to build vehicles without certain modules and will complete them as soon as possible," Davis said in an email.  "This will help us quickly meet strong customer demand as more semiconductors become available."

The demand is high for these semiconductors, so until they start pouring in which will take some time, you can enjoy the view of brand new vehicles sitting in an MSU parking lot near East Mt. Hope Road and Farm Lane.
