In the first time in nearly seven decades, some major changes is coming to Michigan automotive manufacturer Ford, who will be moving its world headquarters, but it's not as far away as you may think.

History of the Glass House

The company, which is currently based in Dearborn, will be staying in the city of Dearborn, and moving just three miles down the road, to a brand new 2.1 million square foot campus, that will be open in November 2025.

The new site, which is where Ford's Product Development Center once was, will become the company's future, and will help carry the name of Ford World Headquarters.

The move marks the end of an era for the iconic "Glass House", which is based at 1 American Road.

The building was originally built back in 1956, with a 12-story structure was a striking symbol of modernism back in its day. The floor-to-ceiling windows, with a sleek steel frame, help showcased the business and innovation.

Why Ford Is Relocating

The Glass House became one of Metro Detroit's most recognizable landmarks, housing leadership during the launch of everything from the Mustang to the Explorer. The building will close operations by mid-2026, and later be demolished in 2027.

What the New Campus Includes

The new Ford campus will be more than a few offices. The design will attempt to bring executives, engineers and designers closer together. Eliminating the silos with a 15-minute walk between their key operations.

The new office will house about 14,000 employees and will have six state of the art design studios, plus a 160,000 square-foot food hall, wellness and mothers' spaces, and over 300 technology driven meeting rooms
