With the coronavirus pandemic fueling record numbers of infections and hospitalizations, and as the nation heads toward the peak of the flu season, experts are saying to get your flu shot now.

According to USA Today, the flu season at this point seems mild, but health experts remain concerned about the possibility of a twindemic of COVID-19 and the flu.

It could overwhelm hospitals and put more of a strain on health care professionals who are already stretched thin in their battle against COVID-19.

Several doctors say that it's definitely not too late for a flu shot. Everyone should be getting a flu shot each year, and especially this year.

Flu cases often begin their rise as early as October. Activity peaks between December and February and can last as late as May.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, influenza and COVID-19 are respiratory viruses and both share routes of transmission.

Wearing a mask, hand washing and social distancing can help when it comes to suppressing the coronavirus, and it's also effective against influenza. And possibly more so since COVID-19 is much more contagious.

Influenza kills up to 60,000 patients a year so we know this can be deadly. The last thing we need is another virus that is vaccine preventable to add to the total number of hospitalizations. (USA Today)
