Expect To Wait Longer at Lansing-Area SOS
If you didn't like to wait at the Secretary of State Office, well then sorry to tell you that the wait will be a little longer now. This is according to the Lansing State Journal which is warning you that you can expect to see longer lines and wait times at Lansing Area Secretary of State's offices. Plus on top of the waiting you may even have some trouble scheduling appointments, making the whole process even worse.
There are two reasons for this happening, first one is Lack of staffing. This is because of the improvement of the economy and it has lead to some turnover and people finding better jobs. Next is cause of 2020 Roll-out of Federal ID program "REAL ID" which was passed by Congress in 2005 (per Homeland Security), and what it does is "set standards for the issuance of sources of identification, such as driver's licenses."
The SOS Office is working on trying to keep the lines and wait shorter by hiring more people but in the meantime if you are headed over to the Secretary of State, they suggest reserving a spot online / appointment. To do that you can find out how HERE.
