Even With Government Shutdown, Sleeping Bear Dunes To Be Open
Even though the federal government is shutdown, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshre will be open. According to WLNS, officials at the park say basic public services will be restored at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in the coming days. Along with basic services open, outdoor areas of the lakeshore will remain open to use. In addition, although the visitor center in Empire and all other facilities will remain closed.
The reason for the park staying open is because volunteers have stepped up to take care of things. Bathrooms will be clean and trash will be removed because of volunteers who have stepped in to help over the last couple of days. The National Park Service will use recreation fee revenue to resume the trash and clean up services and also they will plow some parking lots with the revenue too.
