If eggs are a part of your daily meal plan, then you might want to put a brief pause on that and check on your fridge. A big recall just hit Michigan, and could be in your fridge right now.

Black Sheep Egg Company just pulled its Free Range Large Grade A Brown Eggs, with both 12-count and 18-count eggs, over a potential Salmonella issue. The FDA has classified this as a Class I recall, which is a serious kind of recall.

What Is Salmonella?

Salmonella is a sickness that can cause watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, fever, nausea, vomiting, headache, and loss of appetite. Symptoms usually start about 6 hours to 6 days after eating contaminated food, and can hang around for 4 to 7 days.

If you have severe symptoms of dehydration or fever, you should call your doctor immediately. Young kids, older adults, and anyone with a weakened immune system should be extra cautious right now.

What to Look For

There are two different UPCs that you can watch for to see if your products are apart of the recall.

  • 860010568507
  • 860010568538

If you have cartons that match those UPC numbers, it is a part of the recall. The FDA is also saying that the company distributed eggs to other outfits that may have been repackaged, so more items could show up in this recall.

What To Do Now

If you do happen to have the eggs in the back of your fridge, you should just toss them out immediately, or return them to the store for a full refund. You should also take a moment to clean any surfaces that the eggs may have touched to avoid contamination.
