We're 41 days away from the November 3rd election and early voting begins in Michigan on Thursday (9/24). A record number of absentee ballots have been requested in Michigan.

Over 2.39 million of Michigan's 7.7 million registered voters have requested absentee ballots. With concerns about crowds and social distancing, that number is expected to grow in the coming weeks.

Absentee ballots can be submitted at county clerks' offices and satellite stations throughout the state beginning on Thursday. Genesee County has established four locations where absentee ballots can be submitted:

  • Berston Field House, 3300 N Saginaw St.
  • Word of Life Christian Church, 460 W Atherton Rd.
  • Mince Manor, 3820 Richfield Rd.
  • West Court Street Church of God,  2920 W Court St.

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson says about 20,000 workers have been hired to assist local clerks this year.

"We're on track to have a record number of people voting, [a] record number of people voting by mail and in the course of this pandemic we want to keep everyone safe and healthy and spread out," Benson tells WXYZ.

The last day to register to vote (whether you're voting in person or by absentee ballot) is October 19.

If you're voting by mail, officials suggest mailing your ballot no later than October 19. Ballots must be postmarked no later than November 2.
