Before you get ready to use that hand sanitizer, soap, deodorant, or shampoo, you should pay attention to this recall that is hitting stores here in the state of Michigan over concerns about dangerous bacteria in the product.

In a nationwide recall, DermaRite announced that multiple personal-care products are being recalled due to Burkholderia cepacia complex, a bacterium that can cause serious infection, even sepsis.

The products were sold at Sam’s Club stores here in the state of Michigan.

What Is Being Recalled

Multiple products are being recalled in this batch.

  • Soaps
  • Cleansers
  • Skin-care items
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Deodorant
  • Shampoo

Why the Recall Matters

The affected items span several lots and different expirations.

If you have any DermaRite products, you should assume that they could be a part of this recall until you are sure otherwise.

Healthy people could get away with minor issues, but those who have a weakened immune system or anyone with open wounds are at a higher risk of infection that can escalate quickly.

No adverse events have been reported, but this recall should be treated seriously.

If you purchased any of the affected products, you are being urged by DermaRite to stop using the products immediately. You should check the product name, lot number, and expiration that match the FDA recall.

If you shop at Sam’s Club, you should check the products you have.

You can also confirm whether your products were affected: you can reach out to their support line at 888-943-5190 or email dermarite5186@sedgwick.com.

You can return the product for a full refund or toss the product.
