Credit Card Skimmers Found at Two Lansing Area Gas Stations
If there's one thing we don't need, it's worrying about someone installing credit card skimmers at gas stations to steal our identity.
That's why I rarely ever use my credit card at gas stations to pump gas. I either pay cash for the gas inside or sometimes I will use my credit card inside and not outside at the pump.
So now we find out that eight different gas stations here in Michigan have produced credit card skimmers stealing customers private information, and two of these gas stations are here in the Lansing area.
One is at the Sunoco Gas Station at 5843 S. Martin Luther Kind Blvd. in Lansing and the second location is at the Mobil Gas Station at 1500 Haslett Rd. in East Lansing.
According to mlive.com:
Credit card skimmers are theft devices that cannot be seen outside the pump and are located inside the space where customers scan their credit cards to purchase gas. The skimmer makes a copy of the consumer's card information, which can then be used for fraudulent purchases.
This makes me so angry knowing that there are thieves out there committing these horrible crimes.
Just keep in mind that the FBI and local law enforcement agencies are working diligently to find those responsible for stealing credit card information by installing these skimmers.
Mlive.com also tells us:
"Criminals who engage in this type of illegal activity exploit and manipulate the very technology that we depend on to conduct secure financial transactions in the retail marketplace," said Timothy Waters, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Michigan.
If I remember correctly, I think something like this happened to me about five years ago down in the Detroit area. One day I looked at my credit card statement and someone was using my credit card numbers to purchase holiday gifts. Not a good feeling for anyone!
