With it being legalized as well and thriving very well, some producers appear to be missing some critical safety standards. Due to a lot of intense competition, prices have been slashed, which causes certain brands to cut corners in their vape products.
Why MCT Oil Is Banned in Vape Cartridges
Michigan's Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA) has banned the use of medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil in vape cartridges, effective October 1, 2024. That doesn't seem to stop many distributors from having violations regarding their products.
Details of the Exclusive Brands Recall
It was found that on August 27, 2025, the CRA issued a recall on 5,765 "Pineapple Jealousy" flavored vape cartridges from Exclusive Brands (which is based in Ann Arbor) after discovering MCT oil in them.
Previous Recalls: Sky Cannabis Cases
This follows multiple prior recalls, including the 26,000 cartridges under the Motor City Cannacarts and RIPZ labels made by Sky Cannabis in Warren.
While MCT oil is commonly used in food supplements, inhaling it poses some health risks. It can inflame the lungs and contribute to illnesses like bronchitis or pneumonia.
What Should Consumers Do?
If you have purchased any of the affected vapes, you should check the CRA recall bulletin or your purchase location to confirm whether your product is included. Retailers may offer a refund or replacements, depending on the store's policy. Anyone experiencing any health symptoms after using these products is urged to consult with a healthcare provider immediately.
