Have you ever actually received a Christmas bonus?
These little perks of employment used to be a bit more common than they are these days.
I remember my first two Christmases in radio, back in 1996 and 1997. We all got $100 bonuses PLUS a gigantic basket full of fancy cookies, crackers and wine. (Disregard the fact that I was under age. Don't worry, my mom held on to the wine until I turned 21. That's no joke.)
And I was only a part-timer!
Things changed after 1997. I don't believe I've received a monetary Christmas bonus since that time.
Sure, we got a gift card for dinner somewhere this year, and -- don't get me wrong -- I'm grateful. I do like to eat.
But, there once was a time when employers really wanted to show their deep appreciation of employees' hard work and their value to the company, by opening up their purse. By investing.
Ahhh... those were the days.
Well hey, it's not cash (although we might throw a gift card at you -- haha), but we ARE bringing back the Christmas Bonus!
As you continue (or maybe are just beginning) your holiday celebrations this weekend, we're providing the soundtrack!
