Warning: Popular Candy Found To Have Harmful Chemicals
The following candies have been issued a warning for this upcoming Halloween season, for containing Red Dye No. 3.
See the candies below.
Six Candys To Avoid This Halloween Due To Harmful Chemicals
Red Dye No. 3, also known as erythrosine, is a synthetic food coloring commonly used in various food products, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals to impart a bright red hue. Despite its widespread use, this dye has come under scrutiny due to concerns about its safety and potential health risks, particularly its association with cancer.
The primary concern regarding Red Dye No. 3 arises from animal studies that have indicated a potential link between the dye and cancer. In 1990, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) banned the use of Red Dye No. 3 in cosmetics and external drugs after studies showed that it caused cancer in laboratory rats when administered in high doses.
Although it is still permitted in food products, the ban raised significant alarm regarding its safety.
Furthermore, research has suggested that Red Dye No. 3 may be linked to other health issues, including hyperactivity in children and allergic reactions. While the evidence regarding its carcinogenic properties in humans is not as robust as in animal studies, the concerns linger due to the dye's potential to accumulate in the body over time.
