HAUNTED MICHIGAN: The Old Jail Cell of Boyne Falls

In Charlevoix County there's a haunted jail cell...and it's right out in the open where anyone can check it out...

US-131 cuts right through Boyne Falls. This town was settled in 1856 as “Boyne”, finally adding the “Falls" in 1893. The town’s original purpose was as a railroad station stop along the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad. There were two other, smaller, logging railroads that the town relied on: the Boyne Falls & Northeastern Railroad and the Boyne City, Gaylord & Alpena Railroad.

Being a logging community, you can bet the town had its share of rowdies causing all sorts of mayhem: drunk & disorderly, gambling, fights, etc. Thus was the extreme necessity of a jail.

In the mid-to-late 1800’s, the old Boyne City jail was cementing its reputation - and not a good one. When the area loggers and lumbermen got too rowdy, this is where they were incarcerated. It’s been said that prisoners were tortured, beaten, and even starved to death…and now one of its old cells currently sits near a playground on Nelson Avenue, behind a small veteran’s memorial park.

This particular cell is said to contain paranormal activity. Curiosity seekers and investigators have captured some odd pictures and video footage – orbs with actual facial features, ectoplasmic mists, and other strange figures have been captured hovering around this old cell.
