I met local Lansing artist Dustin Hunt (Muralmatics) about of year or so ago at an event called Imagine the Ave. I was doing a live broadcast and wandered into a little local art/vendor showcase on Michigan and Fairview. We connected immediately. He had a couple of prints. Some dope old school renditions of Biggie and Tribe (A Tribe Called Quest). I purchased this one.

He also did a piece at the Salus Center for National Coming Out Day.

We have been in touch. I have two pieces of his art in my possession that I purchased. I highly suggest you support our local artists. They are awesome, talented, HOMEGROWN, and deserve your support.

While I was getting a piece done by Dustin, he told me about this new project that I think is amazing and will have such a dynamic impact on this city.

It's called Below The Stacks. And it's a MURAL FESTIVAL. Read that again.

We're talking a week long event. They are putting together 20+ artists local, regional, national, and international. Music, workshops, and so much more. It's going to be huge. And the results will be so beautiful. I can't wait to see and be a part of it. We hope you can find some time to check it out.

Below the Stacks is a citywide mural festival featuring street artists from Lansing, Detroit, Chicago, New York and beyond. Artists will be transforming highly visible blank walls into colorful, vibrant and inspiring works of art. The artists we’ve selected represent a wide range of styles and backgrounds who bring unique perspectives to Lansing’s diverse communities. Below the Stacks will feature live mural painting at multiple sites across Lansing, family friendly workshops, tours, artist lectures, live entertainment and more. The culmination of the festival will come together at an all ages hip-hop show on September 21st, from 6-10PM, with a video reveal of all murals created throughout the duration of the festival. All events are free to the public. Select events will have limited space. Registration for all events is encouraged. (Below The Stacks)
