Asteroid Over 100 Stories Tall to Fly By Earth
Don't worry it's not going to hit Earth, but this Asteroid will be flying close to Earth next weekend. According to the NY Post, the asteroid is named "Asteroid 2006 QQ23" and it's larger than the Empire State Building with an estimated diameter of nearly 1,900 feet. So that's a pretty large space rock that will be flying by us next week.
"Asteroid 2006 QQ23" is going to pass relatively close to Earth on August 10. Now by close NASA means it will come within about 5 million miles. Five million miles might seem like its really far, but this Asteroid is quite large, and any large asteroid making a fly-by is going to draw scientists to look more into it. In addition, NASA scientists also say these fly-bys are common with asteroids the size of this one passing by the Earth roughly half a dozen times a year.
