I both love and despise my iPhone. I feel so addicted and yet...I can't bring myself to switch to a different kind of phone.

I have a feeling that I'm not alone and that these addictive iPhones, in my case at least, aren't going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, a new academy has been announced to open right here in Michigan and its focused on Apple products.

As reported by Local 4 News, Apple is set to open a 'Developer Academy' later this year. It'll be the very first in the United States and will be based in Detroit. Furthering education is something I wholeheartedly believe in...but...it's not always accessible to everyone. That's why I love the fact that this academy will be open to people across Detroit, regardless of their academic background or whether or not they have any previous experience.

The academy, in partnership with Michigan University, is also designed to, "empower young Black entrepreneurs, creators, and coders, helping them cultivate the skills necessary for jobs in the rapidly growing iOS app economy."

Apple is one of many companies focusing on diversifying their workforce. Just yesterday, they announced three major projects backed by $100 Million to challenge systemic racism and advance racial equity nationwide. You can read more about their upcoming projects here.

The Developer Academy will offer two different kinds of programs. The first, a 30 day introductory course aimed towards those who are considering a career in programming. The second will be much more intense with 10-12 months of education to help developers acquire the skills needed for the IOS world or even help them start their own business. They estimate about 1,000 students will be in the program every year.

Hopefully, an Apple Developer Program will bring a more positive light to city of Detroit. Just recently, Detroit was apparently named the most hated city in America. You can read more on that below.

So far, there's no word on when exactly this academy will be open or when people will be able to start applying. But, all other information can be found here.
