Apologies Issued After East Lansing Teacher Tells Student to Remove Head Scarf
East Lansing High School student Carolyn Hall says her English teacher asked her to take off her head scarf, saying that it wasn't religious or cultural so it was not allowed, WILX-TV reports. That happened on Wednesday.
The story doesn't make clear as to whether it was determined the scarf was religious or cultural, but regardless, the school has issued an apology. This, after several students showed solidarity with Hall by wearing head scarves to school on Thursday.
Hall said she felt "disrespected."
There's no word on whether the teacher will be disciplined. Last year, East Lansing schools updated its dress code policy to allow students to express their culture.
