Another iconic Lansing structure bites the dust.

The old WITL studio is no more. Crews arrived bright & early Tuesday morning and demolished the entire building, which had been in deterioration ever since the WITL studios moved to it's current location on Pine Tree Road, with sister stations WFMK (dat's us!), WMMQ, WVFN-AM and WJIM-FM & AM.

WITL began as WMRT from 1961-1964, changed to WYFE from 1964-1966 and finally to WITL, switching to an all-country format in 1967.

Over the years, many country artists graced the halls & walls of the old WITL house, built SPECIFICALLY as a radio station, NOT a former home as many people think.

For a few years, WMMQ was also housed in that building until they, too, moved down the street into the same building with the rest of us. I did some great rock specials in that old studio: Grand Funk's 40th Anniversary show (with Mark Farner), the Woodstock Festival's 40th Anniversary (with Woodstock creator & founder Artie Kornfeld) and specials on the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and more.

Great memories are all that are left.
