Lorne Michaels Was Pretty Chill About Kanye West’s Leaked SNL Rant

The Kanye West Twitter train shows no signs of stopping, but SNL seems safely out of the crosshairs after a leaked rant saw the controversial performer nearly walking off before air. Of course, veteran pro Lorne Michaels didn’t sweat the meltdown, given that “he’s an artist, you know?”

Weeks after the incident nearly ended with Kanye walking off the Melissa McCarthy-hosted hour, leaked audio saw the fashion-conscious musician bemoaning a change in set, for which SNL head Michaels and Kim Kardashian had to calm him down. According to E! News, however, the incident brought little sweat to the experienced Michaels:

That happened in his dressing room. Kanye’s been on the show a lot of years, and it’s always different. He’s an artist, you know? A great artist … When he did the 40th anniversary show, which I wanted him to be part of it, I had no idea what he was going to do, even 10 minutes before we went on the air. He arrived that day. But he just always delivers, and he’s Kanye.

The rant gained enough attention that even Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool managed to spoof it in his own SNL declination, but it remains to be seen if West will be worth the panic in the future. In the meantime, Jonah Hill will host the first March installment this weekend with musical guest Future.
