Were Cops Pressured To Frame Mateen Cleaves For Sexual Assault?

One of the police officers involved in the Mateen Cleaves investigation has filed a lawsuit against his police department claiming he was pressured into portraying Cleaves as guilty of an alleged sexual assault.

Officer Brian Ogle filed a lawsuit on Wednesday, May 4, alleging he was disciplined for reporting on state law violations regarding the handling of Cleaves's case by the Mundy Township police department. He reported those violations to the Wayne County prosecutor's office, who is currently handling the Mateen Cleaves case.

The lawsuit names Mundy Township and its police department as defendants. Ogle is seeking $25,000 in damages.

According to the lawsuit, Ogle was suspended two days without pay for being in violation of township rules and regulations "stemming from an incident including Mateen Cleaves" that occurred in September of 2015.

The laswuit comes "as a bombshell" to Cleaves attorney, he thinks it could call the integrity of the entire investigation into question.

Almost two months ago, Mateen Cleaves turned himself into authorities on counts of unlawful imprisonment, assault with intent to commit criminal sexual penetration, second-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Cleaves faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted on these charges.

He turned himself in earlier then expected in what was seen as a "backdoor" arraignment to try and keep Cleaves out of the public eye during those proceedings.

Mundy township officials have denied Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests regarding the investigation and officer discipline records, according to MLive.
