This may not shock you since we get a lot of winter weather and there tends to be a lot of accidents. But according to a new study by ValuePenguin, Michigan is the worst for winter driving, mostly because we have the most accidents of any state in the winter. From 2013 and 2017, there were 282 fatalities in winter weather-related accidents, which is 85 more fatalities than the next state. Again this might not be shocking to some since there is always an accident whenever we have winter weather . But probably one of the more crazy stats is that Michigan averages 37 fatalities per 100 below-freezing days each year.

Also the study broke down roads and cities where the most accidents occur and some in our area unfortunately made the list. Lansing was #3 on worst cities in Michigan to drive in the winter as we had 3 fatalities due to winter accidents, Detroit was #1. Also I-94 was #1 of the worst roads, with I-75 and I-96 coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively. All of these roads averaged double digit fatalities with winter accidents. So please be careful on the roads the rest of the winter cause we have a long way to not be #1 on this list.
