After over a week of victim statements in Larry Nassar's sentencing hearing and over 150 victim-impact statements heard in Ingham County court, Larry Nassar was sentenced by Judge Aquilina to a minimum of 40 and a maximum of 175 years in prison.

Somewhere between 156 and 168 victim-impact statements were read by the survivors themselves or anonymously through the court prior to this sentence being handed down. Co-authored statements and anonymous reports running back-to-back have made this number varied from different sources covering the proceedings.

Michigan Assistant Attorney General Angela Povilaitis delivered the prosecution's closing statement. Nassar prepared a short apology that he admitted would never be enough in his closing statement.

After those statements Judge Aquilina spoke at length about the proceedings and read portions of a letter Nassar wrote to the court.

Nassar previously pleaded guilty to child pornography charges and he was sentenced to 60 years in federal prison. The federal sentence already meant that Nassar, who is 54 years old, would likely spend the rest of his life behind bars. His prison sentence handed out Wednesday cannot begin being served until his federal sentence is over.

Nassar faces another sentencing hearing in Eaton County for sexual assault charges later this month.
