It has taken about a decade but the lead pipe has finally been dug out of the ground in Lansing.  Lansing BWL and the Mayor were out when the last pipe was dug up and it makes Lansing the second city, along with Madison, WI, as the cities to have done this.

The process of digging up pipes started back in 2004 and started as a long and costly process, but after a while of doing this Lansing BWL has made the process quicker and cheaper. To read about their process from Lansing BWL, you can check it out here.

Now that Lansing BWL has the process down and learned so much from doing it for over 10 years, the BWL has been training crews in Flint on its method of removing pipes along with providing technical support.
