'It's a deer! It's an ostrich! It's an... emu?!'

That's kind of how it went, Lynnette Vanecek of Morrice explained. The emu is the second largest bird in the world by height next to the ostrich. Native to Australia, what exactly an emu was doing wandering around Vanecek's yard last weekend is unclear, but she says it's evident the bird has been around people before. She said he's friendly and wasn't shy; eating fruit right out of her hands.

After a week of searching for the bird's owner, Vanecek contacted Wilderness Trails Zoo in Birch Run. The zoo picked up the bird on Friday, but Vanecek still hopes the owner is located.
