Gretchen Whitmer made her plan to run for Governor of Michigan official on Tuesday, sharing on Facebook that she has filed to run.

"I'm IN," she wrote, "because Michigan needs a leader who isn’t afraid to level with people about the real problems we face and bring them together around bold solutions. For too long our leaders have failed us. They haven't been straight with people, and they've politicized our problems instead of solving them. We deserve better."

Whitmer was appointed Ingham County Prosecutor following former Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III arrest in July of last year, previously having served as Michigan Senate Democratic Leader since 2010.
