If you are attending or working on the Michigan State campus this fall then you will be able to ride with CATA for free. There are obviously some exceptions to what routes you can ride on for free, but hey free is free.

The State News says, If you are an MSU student, staff or faculty you will be able to take rides on every on-campus bus route will be free starting this fall.  Make a note that Routes 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36 and 39 will offer the free rides beginning on August 27, this is the first day of classes. You will also be able to take free rides on the new Route 38 which will provide service from Spartan Village to the on-campus bus station across from Shaw Hall.

These free rides aren't going to last forever but they will be around for a one year trial so make sure if you are going to be a student or work on campus to take advantage of these. You can see more on the free bus routes here.
