Just as we said with HBO's earlier pickups of Jack Black-Tim Robbins comedy 'The Brink' and David Fincher's 'Utopia,' the final seasons of 'True Blood,' 'The Newsroom' and 'Boardwalk Empire,' atop the cancellations of 'Family Tree' and 'Hello Ladies' have left some major holes to fill in the lineup. Cue another series order, this time for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson pro-football comedy 'Ballers,' with such talent attached as Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and Rob Corddry!

From The Hollywood Reporter, the half-hour dramedy series will follow the lives of several Miami-based active and retired athletes, Johnson among them. 'Childrens Hospital' star Rob Corddry will play former all-pro running back Spencer’s (Johnson) boss, a financial advisor who “tries really hard to fit in and who is confident but clueless at interpreting social cues,” while also attached to star are Omar Benson Miller, John David Washington, Troy Garity, Donovan Carter, Jazmyn Simon, Taylor Cole and LeToya Luckett.

Not only will ‘Entourage’ producers Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson helm the new series, with Levinson on writing duties, but acclaimed director Peter Berg directed the pilot episode. Evan Reilly will act as showrunner, while Johnson himself, Berg and Johnson’s manager Dany Garcia will also executive produce.

We'll keep you posted on development of the series, but for now, what say you? Is Dwayne Johnson a strong fit for the HBO brand, or will 'Ballers' keep the electrifying entertainment star off the silver screen too long? Tell us if you'll watch HBO's 'Ballers' in the comments!
