At least two East Lansing residents were targeted by phone scammers pretending to be from the IRS, the East Lansing Police Department reported.

Both times the callers would tell the residents that they hadn't paid their taxes and must do it now over the phone or risk being arrested.

There are a few things wrong with this; but the main thing is that the IRS won't call to make you pay your taxes over the phone. Another thing is that if this happens to hang up the phone immediately and don't give any personal information to the person on the phone. Also after you hang up to write the number down and file a complaint to your local Police Department.

Michigan ranks high on complaints for fraud so be careful around now due to Tax Day being yesterday.
