Memorial Day weekend is on the way. The unofficial kickoff to summer! And if you're planning on taking off this coming weekend to go camping, there are at least 16 state parks have campsites available to reserve. Most are in the U.P. (MLive)

All of these campgrounds are on the water. The parks with openings are either on an inland lake for boating and maybe even swimming if you want to brave the chilly water, or they sidle up to the shores of Lake Michigan, Lake Superior or Lake Huron.

Of the 16 parks, the majority are in the Upper Peninsula. They include perennial favorites like Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park with its lovely Lake of the Clouds, as well as Tahquamenon Falls State Park, with its dramatic Upper Falls and its tumbling Lower Falls. And only in Straits State Park can you enjoy your campsite with a great view of the Mackinac Bridge.
