For the first time, Camila Cabello — whose first solo album drops January 12 (PopCrush's review here) — has explained in detail why she finally decided to quit her former group, Fifth Harmony, in December 2016. But that's not all the tea she's decided to spill.

In a revealing new New York Times  published Thursday (January 11), Cabello talks about everything from what it was like to watch 5H mock-kill her on live TV to what it was like to get her first kiss. Check out five must-read tidbits below.

1. Cabello's choice to quit was the result of a perfect storm:

Cabello said her choice to perform "I Know What You Did Last Summer" as a solo act with Shawn Mendes paired with creative difference finally compelled her to up and leave. She said she wanted to contribute lyrics to group songs, but was rebuffed.

“I was just curious and I wanted to learn and I saw all these people around me making music, writing songs and being so free...I just wanted to do that and it did not work," she said. "It became clear that it was not possible to do solo stuff and be in the group at the same time...if anyone wants to explore their individuality, it’s not right for people to tell you no.”

2. A self-titled album was not her orignal plan:

Fans know it was originally meant to be called The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving, but the Times story confirms it was changed so that Cabello could officially wash her hands of 5H drama.

“It definitely hurt my feelings,” she said. “I wasn’t expecting it, I wasn’t prepared for it — especially because at that point I’d moved on from it. I was just like, ‘What? Why?’” Cabello said it nearly made her cry.

4. The chorus to "Havana" came to her suddenly over a sushi dinner:

Yup, the most identifiable part of her smash hit immediately occurred to her during a session with Frank Dukes, who said that as soon as she heard the riffs and salsa influences, she thought of her birthplace.

5. Her first kiss was 10 years ago, while a young student in Miami:

“It was this boy that I was obsessed with my whole time in elementary school,” she said. “He kissed me on the cheek and I ran away — I still do that when someone wants to kiss me.”

Cabello added she's been in love once.
