Obviously its cold, its winter, but what you may not know is that people are getting tickets for warming their cars up in their own driveways! I'm pretty sure we all do it at least once every winter but I'm wondering if this actually a statewide law, or is it just enforced in certain places?

According to the Michigan Motor Vehicle Code (R28-1458 & 257.676), you are in violation by “leaving a vehicle unattended on any street or any other place without first stopping the engine, locking the ignition and removing the ignition key.” Basically if you start your car with a key and leave it running your in danger of getting a ticket if an officer sees it, but if you start it with a remote-start then you are ok.

So I'm not sure if this is a law that is very enforced in Michigan, but its very strange that you can get ticketed on your own driveway. What do you think about? Other states like Vermont have laws like this as well.
