American Idol is officially returning to television after a two year break.

The show was cancelled a year ago by Fox after a 15-year run. It premiered back in 2002. Now, the famous singing competition has a new network in ABC. USA Today reports the news was confirmed today (May 9), however no details were provided about judges, a host, or the duration of the season, though its speculated it will air a shortened season next spring on Sunday nights. The network only has said that the show will return during the 2017-2018 season.

Although the show's popularity declined over the past few years, at one point it was a major pop culture influencer, launching the careers of artists who would go on to dominate the music charts, win Grammys and even an Oscar, including Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson.
