Pat Monahan, Maroon 5, Rob Thomas Pay Tribute To Legends At Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony
Monday night in New York City, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony took place. Per tradition, some of today's artists were on hand to pay tribute to the inductees.
Train frontman Pat Monahan and Maroon 5's Adam Levine and Jesse Carmichael all joined the legendary British Invasion group The Hollies onstage, because their retired lead singer Alan Clarke wasn't sure his vocals were up to snuff. Adam and Jesse sang the Hollies' hit "Carrie-Anne," while Pat belted their classic "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress." Afterwards, Pat said backstage, "I know that this is cliche but it was really an honor for me to be up there...I just feel really lucky."
Rob Thomas, meanwhile, sang the Drifters' classic "Save the Last Dance for Me" as part of a tribute to great songwriters of the fifties and sixties. Backstage, however, he spoke about the influence that another of the night's inductees had on him. He revealed, "Genesis was the first band that I've ever seen live...I went and saw them on the Invisible Touch tour." He added, "I think it was the first time I smoked a joint, too, so it all kinda worked together."
